Mighty Wanderers dominate as Bullets, Silver Strikers battle for supremacy: 2025 TNM Super League

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The 2025 TNM Super League season has delivered a spectacle of thrilling football, showcasing the grit, skill, and determination of Malawi’s top clubs.

As the dust settles on this fiercely contested campaign, one thing is clear: the Mighty Wanderers are the team to beat, but the battle for supremacy remains intense with FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers FC hot on their heels.

Mighty Wanderers have stamped their authority on the league, finishing with an impressive 62 points.

Their relentless attacking prowess is matched only by a rock-solid defense that conceded a mere 12 goals all season — the best defensive record in the league. This formidable balance between attack and defense is the cornerstone of their success.

Scoring 42 goals, they have proven that winning football is about more than just finding the net; it’s about controlling the game and shutting down opponents at every turn.

Right behind them, the FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have blazed a trail of their own.

Despite scoring the highest number of goals in the league — a staggering 54 — they fell just short of the summit, collecting 59 points.

The Bullets’ attacking line-up has been a constant threat, ripping apart defenses with an average of nearly two goals per game.

However, their Achilles’ heel has been their defense, conceding 20 goals and suffering six losses, which ultimately cost them vital points in the title chase.

The Bullets’ campaign has been a rollercoaster of dazzling attacking flair punctuated by rare but costly defensive lapses.

Silver Strikers FC, the perennial contenders, secured third place with 56 points.

Their season was marked by a blend of tactical discipline and attacking tenacity, netting 44 goals and conceding 16.

With only two losses, Silver Strikers displayed resilience but lacked the extra edge to usurp the dominant duo above them.

Their campaign was a masterclass in consistency, but in the fierce TNM Super League, consistency alone is not enough to clinch the crown.

Looking deeper into the league standings, Karonga United and Ekhaya FC have been the surprise packages, both racking up 40+ points.

Karonga United scored 28 goals and conceded 25, while Ekhaya FC found the back of the net 32 times but let in 22 goals.

Their solid performances have injected fresh excitement into the league, proving that the TNM Super League is not just a two or three-horse race but a vibrant competition where any team can challenge on their day.

Blue Eagles FC and Civil Service United, both with 41 points, have had respectable campaigns.

The Eagles scored 34 goals but conceded 28, showing flashes of brilliance tempered by defensive vulnerabilities.

Civil Service United, scoring 32 and conceding 19, demonstrated a well-rounded approach but lacked the finishing touch to climb higher up the standings.

Kamuzu Barracks and Moyale Barracks, stalwarts of the league, have had mixed fortunes.

Kamuzu Barracks netted 29 goals but conceded 33, finishing with 38 points. Moyale Barracks, despite scoring 26, conceded a hefty 34 goals and ended with 36 points.

Their campaigns were defined by moments of promise undone by defensive frailties.

The mid-table battle was fierce, with teams like Chitipa United, Creck Sporting Club, MAFCO FC, and Dedza Dynamos all grinding out points in a league where every victory counts.

Chitipa United and Moyale Barracks both amassed 36 points, while Creck Sporting Club and MAFCO FC finished with 33 and 31 points respectively.

Dedza Dynamos matched MAFCO with 31 points but conceded 32 goals, highlighting the need for defensive tightening in future campaigns.

Mighty Tigers and Mzuzu City Hammers struggled to find consistent form.

The Tigers managed only 26 points despite scoring 21 goals, conceding 32 in return.

Mzuzu City Hammers, on the other hand, had a tough season, scoring 24 but conceding a league-high 40 goals, finishing with just 27 points.

Their campaigns illustrate the brutal nature of the TNM Super League where defensive solidity is as crucial as offensive firepower.

At the bottom of the table, Songwe Border United faced a harsh reality.

With only nine goals scored and a staggering 70 goals conceded, their solitary win and 24 losses epitomize a season to forget.

Their struggles underscore the challenge of competing in a league packed with quality and competitiveness.

What stands out this season is the striking contrast between offensive firepower and defensive resilience.

Teams like Bullets and Wanderers have shown that while scoring goals wins matches, it’s minimizing concessions that wins championships.

The Wanderers’ near-impenetrable defense and tactical discipline have been their greatest assets, while the Bullets’ relentless attacking style has thrilled fans but exposed occasional defensive weaknesses.

The TNM Super League continues to grow in stature, with rising talents and seasoned veterans delivering captivating football week in, week out.

The league’s competitive balance ensures that no team can afford complacency, making every game a high-stakes encounter filled with drama and excitement.

As the 2025 season concludes, the focus shifts to the off-season, where clubs will look to strengthen their squads and address weaknesses.

Will the Mighty Wanderers maintain their iron grip on the title? Can the Bullets sharpen their defense to reclaim the crown? Or will the Silver Strikers find that elusive spark to overturn the established order?

One thing is certain — the TNM Super League remains Malawi’s premier football battleground, where passion, skill, and determination collide to create unforgettable moments.

Fans can already start counting down the days to the next season, eager to witness more spectacular goals, nail-biting finishes, and the relentless pursuit of glory.

In the meantime, the 2025 TNM Super League will be remembered as a season of fierce competition, remarkable individual and team performances, and the unyielding spirit of Malawian football.

The battle for supremacy continues, and the beautiful game in Malawi shines brighter than ever.

Wanderers ease pressure with commanding win as title race heats up: 2025 TNM Super League

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Mighty Wanderers eased mounting pressure in the TNM Super League title race with a composed 2-0 win over Karonga United at Kamuzu Stadium, on Thursday a result that coach Bob Mpinganjira says has restored calm and belief within the squad as the season reaches its tense climax.

Coming into the match with rivals FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers breathing down their necks, the Nomads stepped onto the pitch fully aware that anything less than victory would jeopardise their top position but instead of showing nerves, they delivered a performance that reassured their supporters and underlined their championship ambitions.

From the first whistle, Wanderers took control, pressing high and forcing Karonga United to retreat. Their early intent created immediate danger and after only ten minutes, Isaac Kaliati picked out Promise Kamwendo, who slotted home the opener to send the stadium into celebration.

The pressure didn’t stop there. In the 29th minute, Gaddie Chirwa unleashed a powerful strike from outside the penalty area, extending the lead and tightening Wanderers’ grip on the match as they went into halftime with a comfortable 2-0 advantage.

But while Wanderers dominated the first half, the second half presented new challenges, including a waterlogged pitch that disrupted the flow of play.

Karonga United showed improved determination with their closest chance coming in the 54th minute when they hit the crossbar, offering a glimpse of what could have been.

After the match, Karonga United head coach Oscar Kaunda accepted the defeat, acknowledging that the early mistakes his side made had cost them.

He admitted they were slow to settle and said his technical panel would review those errors to ensure the team improves in their upcoming fixtures.

Kaunda, however, praised his players for their stronger second half showing despite the tough conditions.

The victory now moves Wanderers to 62 points from 27 games three ahead of FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and six clear of Silver Strikers.

For Mpinganjira, the win not only strengthens their position at the summit but also reinforces the team’s sense of purpose as they target their first league title in eight years.

“We are not looking over our shoulders. The team understands what this moment means,” he said.

Man of the Match Promise Kamwendo delivered a standout performance, leading Wanderers’ attack with maturity and helping to guide his side through a potentially tricky fixture.

Grandmaster Nyirenda condemns Silver Strikers’ congested fixture as unsafe and unfair

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Charles “Grandmaster” Nyirenda, one of Malawi’s respected sports analysts, has expressed deep concern over the congested fixture handed to Silver Strikers, who are expected to play six league matches within just 13 days.

He says the situation raises serious questions about player welfare and the overall integrity of the competition.

Nyirenda noted that the tight schedule stems from Super League of Malawi’s (SULOM) decision to ensure that the 2025 season concludes by December 20.

However, he believes the push to finish the league should not come at the expense of the players’ health.

In his remarks, Nyirenda said it is “unacceptable and unsafe” for a team to be forced into such an intense run of fixtures within a short time frame.

He stressed that footballers need adequate rest in between matches to recover physically and mentally.

He further argued that fixture planning must prioritise fair competition and professionalism.

Forcing Silver Strikers to complete six matches in less than two weeks, he added, does not reflect good administrative practice.

Nyirenda was particularly critical of SULOM’s handling of the league calendar, accusing the body of making decisions that appear rushed and poorly thought out.

He warned that such congestion increases the risk of injuries, fatigue and underperformance, which could ultimately weaken the quality of football displayed on the pitch.

According to him, the league should aim to protect players, not expose them to avoidable harm.

Supporting Nyirenda’s sentiments, football commentator Ibrahim Phiri also voiced concern.

He reminded the public that SULOM originally allocated only one match per week for each team, making the sudden increase to six matches in 13 days completely unreasonable.

Phiri said the schedule contradicts the league’s own planning principles and puts Silver Strikers at a clear disadvantage compared to other clubs whose fixtures are less demanding.

He suggested that better planning could have prevented this situation.

He emphasised that consistency and fairness are fundamental in football administration.

Deviations of this nature he said, create confusion and raise questions regarding unequal treatment of teams.

Meanwhile, Silver Strikers currently sit third on the TNM Super League table with 50 points from 24 matches.

Despite the pressure, the team remains one of the strongest contenders as they continue to defend their position.

MAFCO stun Civo to boost survival hopes

DOWA-(MaraviPost)-MAFCO FC produced a spirited and disciplined performance to secure a crucial 2-0 victory over Civil Service United in a TNM Super League match played on Thursday at Champion Stadium.

Civil Service United started the match on the front foot, creating the first major threat of the afternoon through Dastan Baya, who broke through the MAFCO defence only to be denied by a decisive goal-line clearance from captain Paul Ndhlovu.

Minutes later, CIVO had another golden opportunity when Dastan Banda found himself one-on-one with goalkeeper Christopher Mikuwa but his powerful effort was saved.

MAFCO eventually settled into the game and began creating chances of their own, with China Chirwa emerging as the team’s most dangerous outlet.

The forward forced CIVO goalkeeper Richard Mwaila into action several times as the home side grew in confidence.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 45th minute when Chirwa, a former CIVO United player, rose highest to head home the opener, sending the home supporters into celebration.

The goal not only gave MAFCO a valuable lead at halftime but also momentarily lifted them out of the relegation zone.

The second half saw CIVO push hard for an equalizer, earning set pieces and making attacking substitutions, including the introduction of Precious Chipungu, Muhammad Biason and Frank Chizuze.

However, MAFCO’s defensive structure remained intact, frustrating every attempt by the visitors.

MAFCO continued to threaten on the break, with Chirwa nearly doubling the lead through an ambitious bicycle kick that Mwaila comfortably saved.

The home side’s persistence paid off in the 88th minute when substitute Chifundo Mologeni finished off a well-constructed move, assisted by the outstanding Chirwa, to make it 2-0.

China Chirwa, who scored one goal and assisted the other, was voted Man of the Match for his exceptional performance.

Speaking after the game, CIVO Assistant Coach Charles Ben attributed the loss to poor decision-making in front of goal, saying his players failed to capitalize on their chances but promised to work on their shortcomings in training.

On the other side, MAFCO Head Coach Sterio Gondwe expressed relief and satisfaction with the three points, emphasizing the importance of the victory in their fight against relegation.

He pledged that his players would continue working hard in the remaining four fixtures to ensure the team remains in the top flight.

MAFCO now sit 12th with 28 points from 26 matches, while Civil Service United remain 5th with 37 points from 24 games.

TNM Super League: Two Big bullets down Soldiers

.…..KB 0-2 Bullets

By Edwin Mbewe

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Goals from Chikumbutso Salima and Babatunde Adepujo were enough to defeat Kamuzu Barracks on Thursday, 27th November at Civo Stadium in Area 9, Lilongwe.

The visitors showed their intent to secure maximum points from the onset, creating numerous chances in the opening 20 minutes.

Bullets won a free kick outside the penalty box in the 2nd minute. Chrispin Mapemba’s effort struck the wall, and on the rebound, he blazed over the bar.

In the 4th minute, Babatunde Adepujo took a long-range effort that rattled the left post. Ephraim Kondowe reacted to the rebound but rifled his effort wide.

A minute later, Yamikani Mologeni overlapped on the right flank before whipping in a cross to find Kondowe, whose header went wide.

The pressure continued in the 10th minute when Salima set up Wongani Lungu, whose shot was saved by Kamuzu Barracks goalkeeper Charles Chisale for a corner.

Mapemba took another good shot that the goalkeeper fumbled towards his own net, but one of his defenders cleared it before it crossed the line.

The soldiers couldn’t endure the relentless pressure. In the 12th minute, Chikumbutso Salima broke the deadlock after excellent interplay with Chawanangwa Gumbo.

After the goal, Bullets’ Innocent Nyasulu and defender Andrew Jovinala nearly cost their team with a defensive mix-up, but they recovered before Zeliat Nkhoma could capitalize.

Kamuzu Barracks came close to leveling in the 21st minute when John Mchema’s bicycle kick went over the bar.

The visitors also shot over the bar when Wongani Lungu tried his luck from distance in the 25th minute. The home side made their first substitution in the 27th minute as Raphic Bahat was replaced by Smey Chimunkho. Chisale made a crucial save from Mapemba who broke through on the left in the 28th minute.

Kamuzu Barracks had a penalty appeal turned down by referee Godfrey Nkhakananga in the 33rd minute. The home side attacked down the left through Zeliat Nkhoma, who won his battle against Jovinala and went down in the penalty area, but the referee waved play on.

Bullets’ Mologeni whipped in a corner kick to find Babatunde Adepujo, whose header went wide of the post in the 41st minute.
Babatunde Adepujo fired in the second goal just before halftime.

Chikumbutso Salima beat Lloyd Mughala on the right before delivering a stunning cross into the box, and the lanky forward rose highest to meet the pass, ending the first half with Bullets leading 2-0.

At the start of the second half, Bullets made three changes as Hassan Kajoke, Sean McBrams, and Kennedy Musonda replaced Chrispin Mapemba, Ephraim Kondowe, and Aaron Chilipa.
Substitute Sean McBrams accelerated down the right in the 48th minute, beating two markers before putting in a brilliant cross to find Salima, whose header skewed wide.

The soldiers tried to respond through Captain Gregory Nachipo, who attempted an effort through a crowd of legs in the 50th minute, but his powerful shot from his weaker foot couldn’t beat Nyasulu.
Chikumbutso Salima outpaced his marker in the 58th minute before delivering a good ball to the edge of the box, finding Hassan Kajoke whose effort went over the bar.

Kamuzu Barracks made another change in the 74th minute as Zinjani Yona replaced Geoffrey Game. In the 78th minute, Lumbani Mkandawire was booked with a yellow card for a bad foul.

As the match approached its dying minutes, Bullets scored through Hassan Kajoke, but it was ruled out for offside in the 83rd minute.

Coach Mponda substituted Babatunde Adepujo and Chikumbutso Salima for Peter Banda and Bright Munthali in the 88th minute.

Kamuzu Barracks nearly reduced the deficit when Captain Gregory Nachipo whipped in a brilliant corner to find a teammate, whose header was brilliantly saved by Innocent Nyasulu. Soon after, the match ended with Kamuzu Barracks 0-2 FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.

Bullets’ Chikumbutso Salima was voted player of the match.

Kamuzu Barracks head coach Nicholas Mhango acknowledged the defeat, saying they didn’t play according to plan.

“We conceded two goals in the first half and our plan didn’t work out. In the second half we played better but failed to score. If we had played at home at Champion Stadium, we could have done better, but still we will play to get maximum points in our remaining four games,” said Mhango.
Bullets assistant coach Gilbert Chirwa was excited about the win.

“We played very well and created a lot of chances today. The result is a true reflection of how we played.

There is no team which plays well without pressure—even those fighting the relegation battle have it. Today it’s water under the bridge; let’s prepare for our next game on Sunday against Creck Sporting Club,” Chirwa said.

The win has taken FCB Nyasa Big Bullets to the summit of the table with 56 points from 24 games, opening a one-point gap over second-placed Mighty Wanderers FC, who have 55 points from 23 matches.

Meanwhile, at Champion Stadium, MAFCO defeated Civil Service United 1-0 courtesy of China Chirwa’s lone goal.

Wanderers outclass Tigers to extend lead: 2025 TNM Super League

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Mighty Wanderers produced a dominant second-half performance to defeat Mighty Tigers 3–0 in a TNM Super League match played on Wednesday afternoon at Kamuzu Stadium, Blantyre.

The Nomads started the game on the front foot, enjoying long spells of possession but struggled to convert their early dominance into goals.

Tigers, meanwhile, looked disjointed and repeatedly lost the ball under pressure, offering little threat going forward.

Wanderers created several promising chances in the first half but lacked precision in the final third. Clement Nyondo and Muhammad Sulumba were among the players who failed to capitalise on good build-up play, while the Nomads also wasted multiple corner kicks.

Tigers’ only notable moment came when Martin Nsewa delivered a dangerous cross that went untouched in the box. The first half ended goalless despite Wanderers’ clear superiority.

After the break, Tigers showed brief signs of improvement but Wanderers quickly regained control. The deadlock was broken in the 55 minute when Rajab Nyirenda floated a well-weighted ball into the box, which Sulumba headed home to make it 1–0.

The goal energised Wanderers, who began attacking with more purpose and intensity. Substitutes Blessings Mwalilino and Sama Tanjong added fresh momentum, putting Tigers under constant pressure.

In the 75th minute, Wanderers doubled their lead through Blessings Mwalilino, who finished off a brilliant team move with a well-timed header from a Blessings Singini cross.

Wanderers sealed the victory six minutes later. Adam Wallace weaved his way into the box before delivering a low cross that found Isaac Kaliati at the far post. The winger calmly slotted home to make it 3–0, capping an excellent personal performance that later earned him the Man of the Match award.

Speaking after the match, Mighty Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira praised his players for their impressive display but downplayed talk of the title race, saying there are still seven games to be played.

On his remarks Tigers coach Trevor Kajawa admitted defeat but commended his players’ effort, expressing hope that they will perform better in their remaining fixtures.

The result leaves Tigers in 13th position with 26 points from 26 matches, while Wanderers remain top of the table with 55 points from 23 games, strengthening their push for the league title.
