Shooting Victim’s Parents Facing Charges After Jury Didn’t Indict Shooter

After Kentucky State University student De’Jon Fox Jr. was fatally shot by his classmate’s father, the victim’s parents are now facing criminal charges after they allegedly intimidated their son’s shooter.

De’Jon Fox, Sr., and Chardnae Cleveland were both charged with intimidation, according to Indiana online court records. WTHR reported that the duo are the parents of De’Jon Jr., who was killed at the age of 19 on December 9 on the Kentucky State University campus.

The intimidation charges stem from alleged threats that the two made against Jacob Bard, who was initially charged with the murder of their son, according to court records viewed by WTHR, WDRB and LEX18.

Bard was on the school’s campus to help his sons, who were students at the university, move out after they experienced issues with some of their classmates. Bard was arrested after authorities said he fatally shot De’Jon Jr. and wounded another student while at the college’s residence hall.

After the shooting took place, De’Jon Sr. allegedly wrote in a comment on Facebook, “YOU WILL FEEL THE SAME HURT I FEEL.” The comment was seemingly in reference to Bard.

Meanwhile, Cleveland has also been accused of writing concerning things about Bard. “I want his son dead just like mine,” one of her alleged posts read, according to the affidavit.

Father Shoots 2 Students, Kills 1 While Visiting Son on College Campus

Both De’Jon Sr. and Cleveland were arrested and have since been released from jail on bond. It is not currently clear if either person has entered a plea or if they have obtained legal representation.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to Us Weekly’s request for comment.

Two weeks after the incident took place, a grand jury ultimately declined to indict Bard during a hearing on December 23. The decision came after his attorney, Scott Danks, argued that his client had acted in self-defense, according to the Associated Press. The outlet also reported that Bard’s attorney claimed his client only fired his gun after 20 to 30 people had gathered to attack his family.

The attorney claimed that Bard was at the campus to help his two sons move out of their dorms after they were withdrawn from campus following “multiple armed, violent” incidents against them, per the outlet.

“Jacob’s actions were absolutely justified under the law and were the only measure that prevented his son’s death or serious injury,” Bard’s attorney argued during the hearing.

Following the jury’s decision, Bard was released from prison and the charges against him were dropped.

What to Know About Cheerleader Laken Snelling’s Arrest and Upcoming Trial

Kentucky State University issued a statement to the campus community following the ruling, saying that the grand jury’s decision “does not lessen the pain our community continues to feel, nor does it change our priorities.

“Our commitment remains centered on supporting our students and ensuring Kentucky State University is a safe place to learn, live, and work,” the statement added.

The shooting involving Bard was the second to take place near the residence hall in four months. On August 17, someone fired multiple shots from a passing vehicle that struck two people who weren’t students at the university, according to the Associated Press.

Cape Town Minstrels Carnival 2026 – Everything You Need To Know!

The iconic Cape Town Minstrel Carnival returns to the Mother City on 5 January 2026.

Now known as the Hollywoodbets Cape Town Street Parade, this annual event is the longest existing carnival in the city and is an integral part of the city’s cultural heritage. Historically this celebration took place on 2 January aka Tweede Nuwe Jaar and the minstrels were to referred to as the Kaapse Klopse – this celebration the Mother City’s biggest event to usher in the New Year.

What To Expect at the Cape Town Minstrel Carnival

Thousands of minstrels in glittery uniforms from a variety of troupes with face paint, hats and parasols march through the city’s roads, playing their signature “ghoema” music on banjos, trumpets and drums. The troupes are spaced out so that each performance happens separately, allowing onlookers to hear each troupe. There is also a structure to each troupe, with non-instrument playing members called “voorlopertjies” leading the way with extravagant dance moves while the band provides the backing soundtrack.

Among this year’s troupe lineup you will see Original D6 Hanover Minstrels, Mitchells Plain Young Tycoons, Phantoms Community Development, Ashwin Willemse Orient Community Development, Young Wild Comanches, Manenberg Superstars, Carnival Boys Youth Development (also known as Crystal Palace), Wild Apache, Baruch Entertainers, CPT Hawkers, Fabulous Seawind Entertainers, and many more.

Marshawn Kneeland’s Girlfriend Breaks Her Silence Over Cowboys Star’s Death

The girlfriend of late Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland broke her silence after the NFL star’s sudden death.

“I’m grieving hard right now,” Catalina Mancera told the Daily Mail on Monday, November 10. “It will be a long time before I’ll feel ready to talk at any length.”

Mancera, 22, called the police the night before Kneeland’s death on the morning of Thursday, November 6. She expressed concern over Kneeland’s well-being, telling authorities her boyfriend had “a history of mental illness.”

After a brief police chase, Kneeland was found near his abandoned car on the Dallas Parkway, dead of an apparent suicide. He was 24 years old.

Cowboys’ Marshawn Kneeland Was Worried About Going to Prison Before Death

“We’re still in the early stages of everything,” Mancera added. “We are working on the funeral arrangements. I don’t know where it’s going to be yet.”

Kneeland was also survived by his father, Shawn, who is currently incarcerated in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and his three siblings: brothers, AJ and Shawn Jr., and sister, Yahmya

The football star’s mother, Wendy, died in February 2024, just two months before he was selected in the second round by the Cowboys in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Mancera, a fashion designer, has been staying at the Plano, Texas, apartment where Kneeland lived prior to his death.

Nicole Kneeland-Woods, Marshawn’s cousin, told the Daily Mail that the NFL player started dating Mancera while he was a student-athlete at Western Michigan University.

“Marshawn shared a very special relationship with Catalina, whom he had been with since his sophomore year of college,” she said. “They supported each other through many stages of life. Catalina is an important part of our family and she’s hurting deeply too.”

Despite what 911 dispatchers allege Catalina told them, Nicole said, “There were no previous signs or indications that Marshawn was dealing with mental issues.”

“Marshawn was a strong, loving person who cared deeply about his family and everyone around him,” Nicole added.

In addition to the death of his mother, Marshawn also lost his grandfather in 2023, which Nicole said was “was incredibly hard for him.”

“But beyond that grief, Marshawn didn’t show signs of depression or mental health issues,” Nicole explained. “Our family is devastated and still trying to process something that feels unimaginable. We want people to remember Marshawn for his kindness, his sense of humor and his drive. He was loved deeply and that love will always be his legacy.”

Former Coach of Marshawn Kneeland Recalls Final Chat Days Before His Death

Dallas Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones, broke his silence about Marshawn’s death on Tuesday, November 11.

“I think we all have unfettered feelings about the people we love, people we work with, and this is just a time when you acknowledge that there’s no answers,” Jones, 83, said on Dallas’ 105.3 The Fan. “It makes you want to live life to the fullest. It makes you want to look for the very best in what we have for each other. And in some way make sense out of these times in terms of what they can mean from helping those that are here on earth right now.”

Jones added, “All of those things are very natural, come to mind, but his death is such a national awareness thing that it takes on some of that light when we think about how we go forward.”
