BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) Referees Committee has cleared referee Mwayi Msungama of any wrongdoing following a review of key incidents during the recent TNM Super League encounter between FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers at Kamuzu Stadium.
This decision comes after Silver Strikers lodged an official complaint challenging two major decisions made by the referee – the awarding of a penalty to Bullets and the disallowing of a goal for Silver.
In a statement released by the Super League of Malawi (SULOM), the Referees Committee confirmed that both decisions were consistent with the Laws of the Game.
The Committee determined that the referee’s decisions were in line with the rules, dismissing Silver’s complaints.
This decision vindicates Msungama’s professionalism and expertise as a referee.
The controversy surrounding Msungama’s appointment to officiate matches, particularly those involving Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Silver Strikers, had sparked heated debates in the football fraternity. Some teams and coaches, including Silver Strikers’ Peter Mponda, had accused the referees’ body of bias towards certain teams.
The FAM Referees Committee’s decision serves as a boost to Msungama’s confidence and reputation as a competent referee.
It also underscores the importance of having a robust and transparent refereeing system in place to ensure fairness and consistency in match officiating.
As the TNM Super League continues to heat up, the focus will remain on the performance of referees and their impact on the outcome of matches.

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi National Women’s Football team coach, Lovemore Fazili, and captain Tabitha Chawinga have attributed their 2–0 win against Angola, which secured their qualification for the Women AFCON finals, to the strong support they have received from their sponsors, National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc.
The Scorchers sealed their spot after defeating Angola 2–0 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Tuesday, thanks to a late brace from Faith Chimzimu in the 80th and 81st minutes.
The team after the first leg ended goalless in Luanda, Angola.
Speaking after the match, Fazili commended the team’s resilience and acknowledged the crucial role played by Malawians and NBM plc in the team’s success.
“Thank you to all Malawians for supporting us. It is not very easy; Angola was a very tough team. Winning 2–0 at home is a great achievement. I also want to thank the entire technical panel, the players, and most especially the leadership of my captain, who has been instrumental in helping us reach the finals.”
“We would also like to thank our sponsors, National Bank of Malawi plc, for their generous support. They have helped us improve women’s football in Malawi through their sponsorship of the women’s league, which has contributed greatly to the growth and performance of the national team,” said Fazili.
Chawinga expressed joy and gratitude, describing the victory as a moment of national pride.
“This game was so tough, but we fought until the end and won 2–0. We are supposed to be happy, and I believe this happiness is not just for us players, but for the whole country, and all Malawians are happy.
“The way we qualified shows our hard work and unity. I want to thank our coach for the great guidance and also our sponsor, NBM plc, for their support. This victory is also for them,” said Chawinga.
NBM plc Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager Akossa Hiwa hailed the team’s qualification as a proud moment for both the nation and the Bank’s ongoing partnership with the Scorchers.
“We are extremely happy to be part of this historic moment, the first time our women’s football team, the Scorchers, has qualified for the finals in any sport. We are already seeing the fruits of our efforts, and this qualification is a testament to that.”

NBM plc announced a sports sponsorship of K1.58 billion, which includes support for the Scorchers, the introduction of the national women’s football tournament, the first major league title sponsorship of its kind in Malawi, and initiatives for coaches’ development.
This investment is aimed at elevating and developing women’s football in the country.

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Thom Mpinganjira, President of Mighty Wanderers, has expressed dissatisfaction over the revenue generated from the recent encounter between FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers at Kamuzu Stadium over the weekend.
The match reportedly brought in MK138 million, a figure Mpinganjira believes falls short of expectations.
“When you consider the number of people who attended the stadium and the prices they paid for tickets, the revenue should reflect more than what was reported,” Mpinganjira said, emphasizing the need for a more equitable distribution of match-day earnings.
In contrast, Albert Chigoga, CEO of FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, said he is satisfied with the revenue, citing low attendance.
“The turnout was not as high as anticipated, especially when compared to the first round games. Given the number of fans who actually came, the revenue is acceptable,” Chigoga explained.
Charles “Grandmaster” Nyerenda, a sports analyst, added perspective, pointing out that ticket sales were limited due to pricing and accessibility issues.
“Many fans bought the cheaper tickets in advance, while fewer people purchased tickets on match day because of higher prices. This clearly impacted the total revenue,” Nyerenda noted.
On the pitch, Wanderers secured a comfortable victory, defeating Bullets 3-0. Adam Wallace and Blessings Singini added two goals to seal the win.

MADRID-(MaraviPost)-Real Madrid once again proved their dominance in Spanish football after edging arch-rivals Barcelona 2-1 in a tense and entertaining El Clásico clash at the Santiago Bernabéu on Sunday evening, October 26, 2025.
The victory not only strengthened Madrid’s position at the summit of La Liga but also underlined their title credentials in what is shaping up to be another fierce campaign.
The match began with both sides displaying intensity and attacking intent. Real Madrid looked sharper in possession with Luka Modrić and Federico Valverde dictating play from midfield.
Barcelona, meanwhile, relied on quick counterattacks through Lamine Yamal and João Félix, but they found it difficult to break down a disciplined Madrid defense led by Antonio Rüdiger.
It was Kylian Mbappé who drew first blood for Los Blancos in the 23rd minute. The French forward finished off a beautiful move that started from deep in midfield, combining well with Vinícius Júnior before calmly slotting the ball past Marc-André ter Stegen. The Bernabéu erupted in celebration as Madrid took a deserved 1-0 lead.
However, Barcelona refused to be rattled. Just seven minutes later, Fermín López restored parity with a sharp finish from inside the box after Madrid failed to clear a dangerous cross. BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-South Africa’s Under-17 side cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Malawi at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday afternoon, in a match that exposed defensive lapses and lack of composure from the Junior Flames.
The visitors took an early lead in the 15th minute through Luke Hendrix, who slotted home after Malawi’s defence failed to clear a cross from the right flank.
Despite Malawi showing flashes of brilliance midway through the first half, South Africa maintained control of possession.
Malawi made their first substitution in the 38th minute with Owen Dzombe replacing Hope Mustafa, while South Africa responded by introducing Keabetswe Morake for Lwandiso Radebe.
Moments before halftime, Malawi’s Robert Jacob was booked for a foul outside the box and the first half ended 1-0 in favor of the visitors.
The second half started with Malawi looking determined but a defensive miscommunication in the 50th minute resulted in an own goal, doubling South Africa’s lead.
Coach for Malawi Enos Chatama introduced Mapalo Gumbo for Orchestra Kanyenda to boost the attack but the Junior Flames continued to struggle against South Africa’s solid backline.
The visitors sealed the win in the 74th minute following another defensive blunder, extending the scoreline to 3-0.
Malawi’s final changes, including Shaban Daud for Joel Yakobe, couldn’t spark a comeback.
Although South Africa finished the game with ten men after Abulele Dlekeala was stretchered off due to injury, Malawi failed to capitalize during the five added minutes.
The final whistle confirmed a disappointing result for the Junior Flames although it was friendly match.

Stephen A. Smith is not afraid to go up against anyone, and that apparently includes FBI Director Kash Patel.
On the Thursday, October 23, episode of ESPN’s First Take, Smith talked about the recent NBA gambling scandal that saw Portland Trailblazers head coach Chauncey Billups and Miami Heat star Terry Rozier arrested as part of a federal investigation into sports gambling.
During the segment, Smith insinuated that U.S. President Donald Trump is involved in the investigation.
“Trump is coming. He’s coming,” Smith, 58, said on the show. “Anybody that has seen his reactions from the sports leagues and the positions that people have taken, they are not surprised at what’s going on today…this is just the tip of the iceberg.”
He continued: “I’m watching a press conference with the Director of the FBI. Tell me when we’ve seen that. We’ve seen accusations before, we’ve seen athletes get in trouble with the law before. You don’t see the Director of the FBI having a press conference. It’s not coincidental, it’s not an accident. It’s a statement and it’s a warning that more is coming.”
Patel seemingly didn’t take too kindly to Smith’s comments, going on Fox News to talk with Laura Ingraham on The Ingraham Angle later in the day, responding to the fiery accusations.

Patel chuckled when Ingraham asked him about Smith’s comments, saying it was “the single dumbest thing I’ve ever heard out of anyone in modern history.”
“I’m the FBI director, I decide which arrests to conduct and which not to conduct,” Patel said. “We arrest people for crimes.”
Ingraham laughed as the segment wrapped.
Smith took a slight step back on his original statement in a social media post on Thursday night, responding to Patel’s comments on Fox News.
“Nothing to get ahead of here, people! I never denied or failed to mention that this FBI Investigation has been going on for years,” Smith said via X. “I said Trump wasn’t inclined to stop it. He’s sparing no one because the man isn’t playing. He’s coming!! In no way am I attempting to even have an opinion on the legitimacy of this matter. I don’t know the facts of the case. I’m just saying don’t expect POTUS to spare anyone on this matter. And I stand by that. That’s all!”
On his radio show on Friday, October 24, he commented again on the situation, clarifying his stance while also making clear that he still feels the same way about Trump’s involvement with the investigation.
“I would say he’s the director of the FBI, let’s just say I’m not trying to get on his bad side,” Smith said. “But having said that, I still stand by what I said. And I’m not changing my mind.
He continued: “This investigation has been going on since when Biden was in office. They talked about how this stuff has been going on since 2019, which is when Trump was in office. I’m not implying that Kash Patel doesn’t have any legitimacy to the case that he’s pursuing against these individuals … and I’m not about to argue with an FBI director. I’m simply making the point that in the end, you have a president in place that has a lengthy connection to the sports world, rife with friends and enemies. And those who are his enemies, he doesn’t mind inconveniencing one bit. And when it comes to the NBA brand, it doesn’t bother him.”
Smith, known for his strong opinions in sports, has become more involved with politics in recent months. In September, he debuted a new podcast, Straight Shooter, where Smith discusses politics and social issues, a shift from his normal sports content.
