Three-Nations Tournament: Scorchers seek redemption against Copper Queens

By Edwin Mbewe

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)—Scorchers head coach Lovemore Fazili says he will field a strong side when his team faces Zambia’s Copper Queens on Sunday, November 29, 2025, at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe in the ongoing Three-Nations tournament.

The team is looking for redemption to keep their hopes of winning the championship on home soil alive following their disappointing 1-2 loss to Zimbabwe’s Mighty Warriors on Friday evening at the same venue.

Speaking in a pre-match interview, Fazili said: “Playing Zambia tomorrow is a totally different game from what we played against Zimbabwe but I’m not underestimating them as they are equally a good side.

The Warriors gave us a good test. We have played Zambia before and they have been to WAFCON several times. In tomorrow’s game, we aim to perform differently from our first match against Zimbabwe.”

Copper Queens assistant coach Charles Halubono said they are taking the Three-Nations games seriously as they are part of their WAFCON preparations.

“This is a preparation match for WAFCON, hence we have to take it seriously to help us prepare our team before the finals in Morocco.

“Malawi has been improving and now they have, for the first time, qualified for the WAFCON Finals,” said Halibono.

Meanwhile, Racheal Kundananji, who plays in the United States women’s league alongside Temwa Chawinga, anticipates a tough match.

Zimbabwe currently leads the table with three points after defeating Malawi in their opening game.

The Mighty Warriors’ second assignment will be on Tuesday against Zambia.

The team that accumulates the most points after all matches are completed will be crowned champions

Is this Arsenal FC time wining big in world football amid supporters big dreams?

Arsenal supporters across the globe are experiencing a wave of excitement this season, with the club producing performances that many believe are the best seen in years.

After seasons filled with frustrations, inconsistencies and painful near misses, the Gunners have finally found a rhythm that is capturing the attention of the football world.

Much of the current joy among Arsenal fans stems from the team’s consistency.

Unlike past campaigns where the club would win a few matches and then suddenly lose form, this season’s Arsenal has shown relentless control and determination.

Their ability to dominate matches and secure results even under pressure has become a major talking point.

A defining feature of this Arsenal team is its solid defense. For many seasons, the Gunners were criticized for defensive errors and lack of coordination but this time, the backline led strongly by William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães operates with confidence, discipline and unity, providing a strong foundation for the team.

Arsenal humiliated Bayern Munich in Champions league crash

The midfield has also been a powerhouse, combining creativity, physicality and tactical intelligence. Arsenal’s midfielders now control the tempo effectively, create chances and contribute defensively.

This balance has made the team more unpredictable and dangerous.

Upfront, Arsenal’s attack has been firing on all cylinders. Their forwards have shown improved finishing, movement and confidence, allowing the team to break down both high pressing opponents and defensive teams that sit deep.

The fluidity in attack is one of the strongest seen under Mikel Arteta.

Speaking of Arteta, his influence cannot be overstated. The manager has successfully instilled a winning mentality, improved tactical discipline and placed players in their ideal roles. His long-term project, once doubted by many, is now showing maturity and bearing fruit.

Arteta has also managed the squad effectively, ensuring players remain fresh, competitive and motivated.

His decision to rotate the team smartly has helped avoid burnout and injuries, two issues that previously haunted Arsenal in title races.

Another major factor contributing to Arsenal’s success is the improved relationship between players and the coaching staff.

Reports highlight a united dressing room, strong communication and shared belief in the club’s ambitions. This harmony is reflected in their performances on the pitch.

Football experts worldwide have taken notice. Analysts from Europe, Africa and beyond have praised Arsenal’s tactical evolution and mental toughness.

Many now view the Gunners as genuine title contenders, capable of challenging for the Premier League trophy.

However, the road ahead remains difficult. The Premier League is unpredictable and one or two bad results can shift the momentum.

Rivals like Manchester City and Liverpool remain strong, while clubs such as Tottenham, Manchester United Chelsea and Aston Villa are capable of causing upsets.

Arsenal’s ability to handle pressure in high stakes matches will be vital.

In previous seasons, the team sometimes collapsed in crucial games but this season, their composure and maturity have improved, giving fans hope that they can maintain their momentum.

Squad fitness will also play a key role. Injuries have previously derailed Arsenal’s title hopes, so keeping key players healthy will be essential as the season progresses.

The depth of the squad will be tested during the demanding fixtures ahead.

The supporters have also been instrumental in boosting team morale.

The atmosphere at the Emirates Stadium has been electric and traveling fans have shown unwavering support.

This connection between the team and supporters is stronger than it’s been in years.

.….Zimbabwe 2-1 Malawi

By Edwin Mbewe

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi National Women’s Football team, the Scorchers, suffered a disappointing defeat to Zimbabwe’s Mighty Warriors in their opening game of the Three-Nations tournament at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Friday, November 28, 2025.

Playing in front of their home fans, Malawi struggled to find the finishing touch upfront, and Zimbabwe capitalized on this weakness.

The Warriors broke the deadlock just three minutes into the match through Ethel Chinyerere.

In the 7th minute, Faith Chimzimu danced through the defenders before connecting with Rose Kabzere, but Zimbabwean defenders cleared the danger.

Ncube Nobukhosi rifled a free-kick over the crossbar in the 17th minute. Scorchers goalkeeper Mwase produced a stunning save from Christabel Katona’s left-footed effort. In the 23rd minute, Mwase made another crucial save from a glancing header, denying the Warriors a corner.

The Scorchers kept pushing for an equalizer. In the 25th minute, they broke down the right through Rose Kabzere, whose cross into the box found no teammate as Zimbabwe survived the scare.

Leticia Chinyamula tried her luck from distance but sent it over the bar in the 33rd minute. Kabzere delivered a good cross with her left foot in the 34th minute, but the goalkeeper collected comfortably.

As the first half wore on, Ethel Chinyerere extended the Warriors’ lead in the 39th minute. Faith Chimzimu reduced the deficit three minutes later, making it 2-1 at halftime.

Head coach Lovemore Fazili made four changes at the break. Captain Tabitha Chawinga, Mercy Sikelo, Sabina Thom, and Vanessa Chikupira replaced Thokozani Mwase, Mourine Kenneth, Chisomo Banda, and Tendai Sani.

The changes ignited Malawi’s performance. In the 47th minute, Faith Chimzimu played a defense-splitting pass to Sabina Thom, who shot wide from distance. Six minutes later, Thom’s long ball targeted Captain Chawinga, but the defenders cleared before she could reach it.

The Scorchers dominated much of the second half, constantly knocking on Zimbabwe’s door. In the 61st minute, Zimbabwe introduced Fiona Kabera for Privilege Mupeti, while Sabina Thom received a yellow card for a foul.

Rose Alufandika released Vanessa Chikupira on the left in the 67th minute. The attacker beat her defender before delivering a dangerous cross, which the opposition cleared.

Tabitha Chawinga beat her marker before whipping a dangerous ball into the box, but Zimbabwe’s defense conceded only a fruitless corner. Vanessa Chikupira received a yellow card for a foul in the 84th minute.

Leticia Chinyamula came agonizingly close to equalizing in the 89th minute, her long-range effort missing the post by inches.

Captain Chawinga had the last chance in stoppage time, finding herself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but her effort was saved, confirming Zimbabwe’s victory on Malawian soil.

Malawi face the Copper Queens of Zambia on Sunday, while Zimbabwe take on Zambia on Tuesday. Both Malawi and Zambia are using the tournament to prepare for the 2026 WAFCON finals in Morocco.

.…..KB 0-2 Bullets

By Edwin Mbewe

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Goals from Chikumbutso Salima and Babatunde Adepujo were enough to defeat Kamuzu Barracks on Thursday, 27th November at Civo Stadium in Area 9, Lilongwe.

The visitors showed their intent to secure maximum points from the onset, creating numerous chances in the opening 20 minutes.

Bullets won a free kick outside the penalty box in the 2nd minute. Chrispin Mapemba’s effort struck the wall, and on the rebound, he blazed over the bar.

In the 4th minute, Babatunde Adepujo took a long-range effort that rattled the left post. Ephraim Kondowe reacted to the rebound but rifled his effort wide.

A minute later, Yamikani Mologeni overlapped on the right flank before whipping in a cross to find Kondowe, whose header went wide.

The pressure continued in the 10th minute when Salima set up Wongani Lungu, whose shot was saved by Kamuzu Barracks goalkeeper Charles Chisale for a corner.

Mapemba took another good shot that the goalkeeper fumbled towards his own net, but one of his defenders cleared it before it crossed the line.

The soldiers couldn’t endure the relentless pressure. In the 12th minute, Chikumbutso Salima broke the deadlock after excellent interplay with Chawanangwa Gumbo.

After the goal, Bullets’ Innocent Nyasulu and defender Andrew Jovinala nearly cost their team with a defensive mix-up, but they recovered before Zeliat Nkhoma could capitalize.

Kamuzu Barracks came close to leveling in the 21st minute when John Mchema’s bicycle kick went over the bar.

The visitors also shot over the bar when Wongani Lungu tried his luck from distance in the 25th minute. The home side made their first substitution in the 27th minute as Raphic Bahat was replaced by Smey Chimunkho. Chisale made a crucial save from Mapemba who broke through on the left in the 28th minute.

Kamuzu Barracks had a penalty appeal turned down by referee Godfrey Nkhakananga in the 33rd minute. The home side attacked down the left through Zeliat Nkhoma, who won his battle against Jovinala and went down in the penalty area, but the referee waved play on.

Bullets’ Mologeni whipped in a corner kick to find Babatunde Adepujo, whose header went wide of the post in the 41st minute.
Babatunde Adepujo fired in the second goal just before halftime.

Chikumbutso Salima beat Lloyd Mughala on the right before delivering a stunning cross into the box, and the lanky forward rose highest to meet the pass, ending the first half with Bullets leading 2-0.

At the start of the second half, Bullets made three changes as Hassan Kajoke, Sean McBrams, and Kennedy Musonda replaced Chrispin Mapemba, Ephraim Kondowe, and Aaron Chilipa.
Substitute Sean McBrams accelerated down the right in the 48th minute, beating two markers before putting in a brilliant cross to find Salima, whose header skewed wide.

The soldiers tried to respond through Captain Gregory Nachipo, who attempted an effort through a crowd of legs in the 50th minute, but his powerful shot from his weaker foot couldn’t beat Nyasulu.
Chikumbutso Salima outpaced his marker in the 58th minute before delivering a good ball to the edge of the box, finding Hassan Kajoke whose effort went over the bar.

Kamuzu Barracks made another change in the 74th minute as Zinjani Yona replaced Geoffrey Game. In the 78th minute, Lumbani Mkandawire was booked with a yellow card for a bad foul.

As the match approached its dying minutes, Bullets scored through Hassan Kajoke, but it was ruled out for offside in the 83rd minute.

Coach Mponda substituted Babatunde Adepujo and Chikumbutso Salima for Peter Banda and Bright Munthali in the 88th minute.

Kamuzu Barracks nearly reduced the deficit when Captain Gregory Nachipo whipped in a brilliant corner to find a teammate, whose header was brilliantly saved by Innocent Nyasulu. Soon after, the match ended with Kamuzu Barracks 0-2 FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.

Bullets’ Chikumbutso Salima was voted player of the match.

Kamuzu Barracks head coach Nicholas Mhango acknowledged the defeat, saying they didn’t play according to plan.

“We conceded two goals in the first half and our plan didn’t work out. In the second half we played better but failed to score. If we had played at home at Champion Stadium, we could have done better, but still we will play to get maximum points in our remaining four games,” said Mhango.
Bullets assistant coach Gilbert Chirwa was excited about the win.

“We played very well and created a lot of chances today. The result is a true reflection of how we played.

There is no team which plays well without pressure—even those fighting the relegation battle have it. Today it’s water under the bridge; let’s prepare for our next game on Sunday against Creck Sporting Club,” Chirwa said.

The win has taken FCB Nyasa Big Bullets to the summit of the table with 56 points from 24 games, opening a one-point gap over second-placed Mighty Wanderers FC, who have 55 points from 23 matches.

Meanwhile, at Champion Stadium, MAFCO defeated Civil Service United 1-0 courtesy of China Chirwa’s lone goal.

Wanderers outclass Tigers to extend lead: 2025 TNM Super League

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Mighty Wanderers produced a dominant second-half performance to defeat Mighty Tigers 3–0 in a TNM Super League match played on Wednesday afternoon at Kamuzu Stadium, Blantyre.

The Nomads started the game on the front foot, enjoying long spells of possession but struggled to convert their early dominance into goals.

Tigers, meanwhile, looked disjointed and repeatedly lost the ball under pressure, offering little threat going forward.

Wanderers created several promising chances in the first half but lacked precision in the final third. Clement Nyondo and Muhammad Sulumba were among the players who failed to capitalise on good build-up play, while the Nomads also wasted multiple corner kicks.

Tigers’ only notable moment came when Martin Nsewa delivered a dangerous cross that went untouched in the box. The first half ended goalless despite Wanderers’ clear superiority.

After the break, Tigers showed brief signs of improvement but Wanderers quickly regained control. The deadlock was broken in the 55 minute when Rajab Nyirenda floated a well-weighted ball into the box, which Sulumba headed home to make it 1–0.

The goal energised Wanderers, who began attacking with more purpose and intensity. Substitutes Blessings Mwalilino and Sama Tanjong added fresh momentum, putting Tigers under constant pressure.

In the 75th minute, Wanderers doubled their lead through Blessings Mwalilino, who finished off a brilliant team move with a well-timed header from a Blessings Singini cross.

Wanderers sealed the victory six minutes later. Adam Wallace weaved his way into the box before delivering a low cross that found Isaac Kaliati at the far post. The winger calmly slotted home to make it 3–0, capping an excellent personal performance that later earned him the Man of the Match award.

Speaking after the match, Mighty Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira praised his players for their impressive display but downplayed talk of the title race, saying there are still seven games to be played.

On his remarks Tigers coach Trevor Kajawa admitted defeat but commended his players’ effort, expressing hope that they will perform better in their remaining fixtures.

The result leaves Tigers in 13th position with 26 points from 26 matches, while Wanderers remain top of the table with 55 points from 23 games, strengthening their push for the league title.

PSL endorses league expansion after Zambabwe FA proposal

HARARE-(MaraviPost)-The Premier Soccer League (PSL) of Zimbabwe has agreed in principle to expand the top-flight league following a proposal by the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) aimed at increasing the number of participating teams and restructuring the country’s football system.

The development was announced in a statement signed by PSL Communications and Media Liaison Officer, Kudzai Bare, the PSL confirmed that it had convened an Extraordinary General Meeting to discuss ZIFA’s proposal.

ZIFA recommended that the league expand from 18 to 20 teams starting from the 2026 season, alongside the establishment of a National First Division League.

According to the PSL, the meeting resolved to suspend relegation for the 2025 season.

This decision will allow the league to accommodate newly promoted teams, resulting in a temporary expansion to 22 teams for the 2026 campaign.

The transitional measure is meant to ensure a smooth shift into the new structure.

The PSL further indicated that after the conclusion of the 2026 season, the league will revert to the proposed 20-team format beginning in 2027.

This marks a significant milestone in the long-term restructuring of Zimbabwe’s football leagues.

In addition to the expansion, the PSL has proposed a phased approach to implementing the National First Division League.

The body expressed optimism that the new division could become fully operational within the next three years, representing a major step toward strengthening the country’s football development pathways.

Bare reiterated the league’s commitment to working closely with national football authorities to ensure the success of the reforms.

The changes are expected to reshape the competitive landscape of Zimbabwean football, offering more opportunities for clubs while aligning the domestic league structure with broader development goals.
