Ekhaya FC rampages past Chitipa United

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Ekhaya FC put on a masterclass on Saturday afternoon as they secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Chitipa United at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre.

James Lumbe opened the scoring in the 21st minute after receiving a precise pass from Emmanuel Saviel, slotting the ball home with ease to give Ekhaya FC an early advantage.

The goal ignited the home crowd and set the tone for the rest of the first half.

Ekhaya doubled their lead in the 29th minute through Blessings Malinda.

The striker’s dazzling footwork saw him breeze past the Chitipa United defense before firing a powerful shot past the goalkeeper.

A third goal came in the 39th minute as Saviel himself found the back of the net.

Ekhaya’s swift passing and coordinated movements broke down the visiting defense, making it look easy for Saviel to extend the lead to 3-0.

At halftime, the scoreboard read Ekhaya FC 3, Chitipa United 0. The goals came from James Lumbe (21’), Blessings Malinda (29’), and Emmanuel Saviel (39’).

The second half saw both teams make changes with Ekhaya introducing Wongani Kaponya for Matchipitsa, while Chitipa United made a triple substitution including Marley Kasongo, Raphael Nkhoma and Daniel Boston in an attempt to alter the game’s flow.

Chitipa United showed signs of improvement in possession but they were unable to penetrate Ekhaya’s organized defense.

Ekhaya also made tactical substitutions, bringing in Samuel Rukula, Clever Chikwata, Innocent Msowoya and Fanizo Mwansambo, which allowed them to maintain their dominance in the final stages of the match.

After five minutes of added time, the referee blew the final whistle, confirming Ekhaya FC’s emphatic 3-0 win. Moses Banda was named man of the match for his influential performance in midfield.

Chitipa United coach Kondwa Ikwanga acknowledged the fatigue of his players after their long journey, stating that although there were opportunities, the team failed to capitalize on them.

Meanwhile, Ekhaya coach Enos Chatama expressed satisfaction with the victory but noted that some tactical points from training didn’t go as planned, promising to address these in upcoming sessions.

Ekhaya is currently in 6th position with 36 points from 23 games, while Chitipa United sits in 9th position with 32 points from 25 matches.

Tigers beat Kamuzu Barracks in TNM Super League

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Mighty Tigers on Wednesday afternoon braved a heavily waterlogged Mpira Stadium in Chiwembe to claim a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Kamuzu Barracks in a TNM Super League match marked by persistent rains.

Earlier in the day, the state of the pitch had raised concerns as officials were seen pushing away water from the drenched surface while match organisers installed commercial boards under rainfall.

Players from both teams were forced to delay warm-ups and remained in the dressing rooms as the situation gradually stabilised.

Despite the soggy conditions, the match kicked off as scheduled, with Tigers showing early intent.

By the 2nd minute, they had already won their first corner, and moments later Bakali Osman fired a powerful free-kick over the bar from just outside the penalty area but Kamuzu Barracks survived those early scares.

The visitors responded with their own corner in the 12th minute as rains continued pouring, though they struggled to capitalise.

Tigers eventually found the breakthrough in the 16th minute when Greyson Msowoya connected beautifully to a delivery from Masambiro Kalua, sliding the ball past goalkeeper Hastings Banda to make it 1–0.

From then, the match became a battle of determination.

Zeliet Nkhoma was a constant threat for KB, pushing relentlessly for an equaliser but the Tigers’ defence remained composed.

A dramatic moment came in the 43rd minute when KB’s goalkeeper handled the ball outside the box, giving Tigers a free-kick, while bench player Peter Mughogho received a yellow card for confronting the assistant referee.

In the second half, Tigers nearly doubled the lead in the 48th minute when Msowoya set up substitute Precious Kwalenga but KB keeper Hastings Banda reacted brilliantly to deny the effort.

KB made several substitutions to bolster their attacking power, but Tigers continued to look dangerous on the break while defending with discipline.

Both teams endured more stoppages as the soaked pitch made play difficult.

Tigers earned multiple corners but failed to convert, while KB’s hopes remained pinned on lone marksman Zeliet Nkhoma, whose efforts were repeatedly kept at bay by goalkeeper Lucky Tizoola and a resolute Tigers backline.

As the clock ticked towards full-time, both sides continued making tactical changes.

Tigers’ coach Trevor Kajawo introduced fresh legs to preserve the narrow lead, while KB sought one last push for an equaliser. After three added minutes, the referee blew the final whistle, confirming Tigers’ 1–0 triumph.

Speaking after the match, Tigers’ coach Trevor Kajawo expressed satisfaction, saying his players understood the importance of the fixture as they continue fighting to move away from the relegation zone.

On the other hand, Kamuzu Barracks’ coach Nicholas Mhango accepted defeat, saying one critical mistake cost them the match.

However, Mhango remained optimistic about their ambition to finish in the top eight.

Kamuzu Barracks remain 7th on the log with 35 points from 25 matches, while Mighty Tigers move to 26 points from the same number of games on position 12.

Wanderers unhappy with revenue from Bullets clash

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Thom Mpinganjira, President of Mighty Wanderers, has expressed dissatisfaction over the revenue generated from the recent encounter between FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers at Kamuzu Stadium over the weekend.

The match reportedly brought in MK138 million, a figure Mpinganjira believes falls short of expectations.

“When you consider the number of people who attended the stadium and the prices they paid for tickets, the revenue should reflect more than what was reported,” Mpinganjira said, emphasizing the need for a more equitable distribution of match-day earnings.

In contrast, Albert Chigoga, CEO of FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, said he is satisfied with the revenue, citing low attendance.

“The turnout was not as high as anticipated, especially when compared to the first round games. Given the number of fans who actually came, the revenue is acceptable,” Chigoga explained.

Charles “Grandmaster” Nyerenda, a sports analyst, added perspective, pointing out that ticket sales were limited due to pricing and accessibility issues.

“Many fans bought the cheaper tickets in advance, while fewer people purchased tickets on match day because of higher prices. This clearly impacted the total revenue,” Nyerenda noted.

On the pitch, Wanderers secured a comfortable victory, defeating Bullets 3-0. Adam Wallace and Blessings Singini added two goals to seal the win.

Mighty Tigers boost survival hopes with vital win over Songwe Border United: TNM Super League

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Mighty Tigers have taken a crucial step away from the relegation zone after edging Songwe Border United 1-0 in a tense TNM Super League clash played this afternoon at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre.

The match, dubbed “the battle of the danger zone,” saw Tigers display resilience and determination as they fought to secure all three points, moving them up to 21 points from 22 games.

It was forward Wisdom Maulawo Jere who made the difference early in the game, scoring in the 11th minute after connecting beautifully with a pass from Samuel Kondanani.

The early goal lifted the spirits of the Kau Kau Boys, who showed strong defensive discipline for the remainder of the match.

Despite several promising opportunities to double their lead, the home side failed to convert their chances, while Songwe Border United pressed hard in search of an equalizer but lacked the cutting edge in front of goal.

The second half saw multiple substitutions from both sides, as Coach Trevor Kajawa of Tigers sought to maintain control of the game.

His tactical changes, including the introduction of Masambiro Kalua and Precious Kwalenga, helped stabilize the team’s shape in midfield.

Songwe Border United, under Coach Edwin Kaonga, also made several attacking changes, bringing in Richard Cheyo, Festus Chikwezgha and Bryson Kanambo to add firepower but they could not break down Tigers’ solid defense marshaled by Bakali Osman, who was later voted Man of the Match.

In his post match remarks, Kajawa praised his boys for showing fighting spirit and composure after taking an early lead.

“The boys did well today, especially after scoring early. We had several chances to kill off the game but the most important thing is that we got the three points. We are still confident of staying in the league,” said Kajawa.

On the other hand, Songwe Border coach Kaonga expressed disappointment with the officiating, claiming some crucial decisions went against his side.

“We played well but were let down by officiating. However, we will keep fighting because the battle for survival is not over,” Kaonga said.

The win sees Mighty Tigers move to 12th position with 21 points from 22 matches, while Songwe Border United remain at the bottom of the table with just 5 points from 21 games.
