Katy Perry Mends Her ‘Broken Heart’ in Down-on-Her-Luck ‘Bandaids’ Video

Katy Perry is turning to music after upheaval in her personal life.

The pop star, 41, dropped her powerful new song, “Bandaids,” and its self-deprecating music video on Thursday, November 6, marking her first release since her split from ex-fiancé Orlando Bloom.

In the video, a down-on-her-luck Perry finds herself in a series of near-death situations. It begins with the singer washing dishes (a nod to her viral “Call Her Daddy” comment last year about Bloom getting his “d*** sucked” whenever he did chores) when her ring suddenly falls down the drain. As Perry sticks her hand in the sink to retrieve the gold band, she accidentally turns on the garbage disposal, leaving her bloodied and screaming.

As the visual progresses, Perry’s misfortune only gets worse: Her shoelace gets caught in the escalator at a shopping mall, causing her to face-plant; the lid comes off her coffee cup while she’s driving, spilling all over her lap and burning her; and she sinks into quicksand after narrowly avoiding an oncoming train.

Katy Perry’s Craziest and Chicest Style Moments Through the Years

The video is filled with Easter eggs, from a daisy growing in the middle of the train tracks (Perry and Bloom’s 5-year-old daughter is named Daisy) to the Grammy nominee’s 2024 single “Woman’s World” playing before a gas station explosion in the final scene, signaling the end of her 143 era and the beginning of another.

“Bandaids” features candid lyrics about Perry’s “broken heart” that offer a glimpse into her mindset after her breakup. She sings in the first verse, “Hand to God, I promise I tried / There’s no stone left unturned / It’s not what you did / It’s what you didn’t / You were there, but you weren’t.”

Later, Perry references Daisy as one of the positive things that came out of the relationship, singing, “If I had to do it all over again / I would still do it all over again / The love that we made was worth it in the end.”

Relive Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom’s Relationship Timeline Pre-Split

The release comes after several major changes in Perry’s personal life. Us Weekly confirmed her separation from Bloom, 48, in June after nearly 10 years together. A source revealed at the time that it was “a long time coming,” as things between the now-exes had “been tense for months.”

Nonetheless, Perry and Bloom remain cordial as they moved forward with their focus on their daughter.

“They are still very much in touch and coparenting Daisy together,” an insider told Us in June. “It’s not messy between them.”

The source noted that Perry and Bloom were “prioritizing stability and consistency for Daisy” as the family adapted to their new normal.

Katy Perry’s Dating History: Relive Her A-List Romances

In the aftermath of the split, the Pirates of the Caribbean star emphasized his healthy coparenting dynamic with his ex.

“I’m so grateful. We have the most beautiful daughter,” he said on the Today show in September. “You know, when you leave everything on the field, like I did in [the movie The Cut], I feel grateful for all of it.”

He added, “We’re great. We’re going to be great. It’s nothing but love.”

After her breakup from Bloom, Perry moved on with former Canadian Prime Minster Justin Trudeau, to whom she has been linked since July. At the time, the pair — who “have a few mutuals in the music industry” — were spotted on a “casual” dinner date in Canada after being “in touch for the last month,” according to a source.

Although Perry does not “have a lot of extra time” at the moment due to her ongoing Lifetimes Tour, the insider told Us, “This is all new to her, as she hasn’t dated in so many years, and it’s been exciting to put herself out there again. … Katy is excited to move on but isn’t looking for anything serious.”

In October, a source revealed that Perry and Trudeau, 53, are staying under the radar while pursuing their connection.

“Katy is really into it. She’s very happy,” the insider told Us. “She’s trying to keep it low-key, and they’ve spent a lot of private time together. She’s not looking to publicize this relationship.”

Frankie Muniz Says He Hasn’t Spoken to Hilary Duff in 22 Years

Frankie Muniz is ready to set the record straight on where his relationship with former costar Hilary Duff currently stands.

“There’s another story I haven’t told, and I don’t know if I want to tell it, but maybe I will. It’s been a long time,” Muniz, 39, shared on a September episode of “The Joe Vulpis Podcast” hosted by Joe Vulpis. “I was on the set of Lizzie McGuire, and I was in Hilary’s dressing room and her mom was there. Her mom was — I’m going to say — the epitome of a stage mom, momager. … Hilary was so cool, we had an awesome relationship, but her mom was super intense. My mom was the opposite.”

After Lizzie McGuire premiered in 2001, Duff, 38, asked Muniz — who was starring in Malcolm in the Middle at the time — to appear on her Disney Channel show as himself.

The actor said that Duff was one of the “first friends” he met after moving to Los Angeles, but their friendship was not able to stand the test of time after the actor claimed Duff’s mom questioned his career plans.

‘Lizzie McGuire’ Cast: Where Are They Now?

“Her mom was like, ‘Do you know what you’re doing this summer? What are you doing this summer?’” he recalled. “And I go, ‘Oh, I’m filming this movie where I’m playing like a junior James Bond. It’s called Agent Cody Banks.’”

When Duff’s mom questioned if the movie’s team was looking for an actress, Muniz stayed mum but knew “I had the say of who the girl was going to be.”

Although he initially thought Smallville’s Kristin Kreuk was going to take the role, he was surprised to learn Duff booked the film one day later.

“Needless to say, I wasn’t thrilled about it. And not because I didn’t want it to be Hilary,” he said. “I don’t know how much I want to say. I’m trying to think about it because I’ve already said way too much.”

Although Agent Cody Banks was released in 2003 and was a hit at the box office, the movie’s leading characters didn’t exactly stay close.

“I’ve never talked to Hilary since the last day of filming,” Muniz said. “I’ve not said one word to her since then. So that’s the truth of that. No one knows about my Hilary Duff story.”

Us Weekly has reached out to Duff’s reps for comment.

To this day, Muniz said he doesn’t hold any ill feelings towards the former Disney Channel star. In fact, he said he regrets “not just continuing to be friends with her because we had a great friendship for such a long time.”

“I would love to catch up with her,” Muniz added. “I would love to even talk about that because I’m sure she doesn’t know any of that happened.”

Hilary Duff Through the Years: Disney, Motherhood and More

More than two decades after first finding success in Hollywood, both Muniz and Duff remain booked and busy.

Muniz is expected to star in the upcoming Malcolm in the Middle revival.

As for Duff, she recently signed a deal with Atlantic Records to release new music. The “So Yesterday” singer also has a docuseries in the works that will document her long-awaited musical return and personal journey.

Charles Spencer Details How He Came Up With Sister Princess Diana’s Eulogy

Charles Spencer is sharing new details on how he crafted his sister Princess Diana’s eulogy at her funeral.

In an interview with Gyles Brandreth on the Friday, October 24, episode of the “Rosebud” podcast, the 9th Earl Spencer, 61, said that the eulogy he had originally planned for Diana’s memorial service in September 1997 was “very different” from what he eventually read.

He explained that he was “in bits” flying back to the U.K. from Cape Town, South Africa, when he started thinking about who could eulogize his sister.

“I had a big, thick address book, and I thought, ‘I want to find someone who’s going to make the speech for her.’ And I got to ‘Z’ and I hadn’t found anyone,” Spencer recalled of the “profoundly emotional moment.”

“[I] got off the plane in Heathrow [Airport], called my mother, I said, ‘I can’t think who’s going to give the eulogy. And I’ve got an awful feeling it’s going to have to be me,’” he continued. “And she said, ‘Well, it is going to be you. Your sisters and I have decided it.’”

Princess Diana’s Brother Charles Spencer Visits Her Grave Almost Daily

Spencer said that he initially decided to write a “very traditional eulogy” about their childhood and such, but then thought, “Well, this is ridiculous, that’s not who she was.”

He said he soon “realized” that the moment called for him not to speak about the late Princess of Wales but to “speak for her.”

“And I knew I’d been left at that stage — it had no legal standing — but I knew she’d left me as guardian of her sons,” Spencer added of his nephews Prince William and Prince Harry, who were 15 and 12 when their mother died at age 36 after a car crash in Paris in August 1997.

“Obviously, the other parent being alive, that meant nothing, but it meant something to me. That sort of duty, I think,” Spencer said, noting that the now King Charles III would obviously be caring for his sons. “And then I wrote [the eulogy] in an hour and a half and, yeah, that was it, really.”

He admitted that he took a “name-check” to Rupert Murdoch out, deeming it “rather unnecessary,” but kept the rest of what he had planned to say in his touching speech.

The eulogy is “one of the most unforgettable moments in recent British history,” according to “Rosebud,” and detailed her selflessness, strength, beauty and love of family. It also spoke to Diana’s mistreatment by the British media.

“She would want us today to pledge ourselves to protecting her beloved boys, William and Harry, from a similar fate and I do this here Diana on your behalf. We will not allow them to suffer the anguish that used regularly to drive you to tearful despair,” Spencer said at the time.

“And beyond that,” he continued, “on behalf of your mother and sisters, I pledge that we, your blood family, will do all we can to continue the imaginative way in which you were steering these two exceptional young men so that their souls are not simply immersed by duty and tradition but can sing openly as you planned.”

Spencer has been a champion for both William, 43, and Harry, 41, over the years, notably supporting Harry in January after he settled his legal battle with The Sun. The News Group Newspaper, owned by Murdoch, 94, apologized to Harry “for the serious intrusion” of his private life, along with his late mother’s, for decades.

Princess Diana’s Brother Pays Tribute on 27th Anniversary of Her Death

Spencer praised Harry following the victory, writing in an Instagram post at the time, “It takes an enormous amount of guts to take on major media organizations like this, and incredible tenacity to win against them. It’s wonderful that Harry also secured an apology for his mother — she would be immensely touched by this, I’m sure, and also rightly proud. Well done indeed.”

Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped down from their royal duties in 2020 and have since been in disagreement with his father, William and his wife, Kate Middleton.

Harry and Meghan, 44, now live in California with their children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4.

“I enjoy living [in the U.S.] and bringing my kids up here,” the Duke of Sussex said at The New York Times’ DealBook Summit in New York City in December 2024. “It’s a part of my life that I never thought I was going to live and it feels as though it’s the life that my mom wanted for me.”
