Zambians question music industry’s silence as General Kanene buries his daughter

……While the community and colleagues from Komboni Radio stood by him, fellow musicians were notably absent during the funeral of General Kanene’s one-year-old daughter, Sophia.

LUSAKA-(MaraviPost)-Citizens in Zambia have expressed concern over the apparent silence and absence of the country’s music industry during the funeral of popular musician Clifford Dimba, better known as General Kanene.

Kanene, who recently lost his one-year-old daughter, Sophia, laid her to rest this week in an emotional ceremony attended by members of his local community and close friends.

The funeral attracted strong support from neighbours and community members who live around Kanene, as they rallied together to help him meet the daily needs of the mourning period.

Despite the tragic news spreading widely across social media and entertainment circles, no notable figures from the Zambian music industry appeared at the house of mourning or at the burial ceremony.

This lack of presence has sparked public debate, with many questioning why fellow artists did not show solidarity during one of their colleague’s most painful moments.

Observers say this incident reveals a deeper truth about the nature of fame and relationships in the entertainment world.

Many have argued that fame often brings people close for selfish reasons, creating relationships that are mostly transactional rather than genuine.

When tragedy strikes, these shallow connections often disappear, leaving the affected person to rely on family, neighbours, and genuine friends for emotional and practical support.

A visibly heartbroken yet composed General Kanene was surrounded by colleagues from Komboni Radio, where he currently works, as well as friends he interacts with daily.

Witnesses described the atmosphere as both somber and supportive, with community members doing their best to comfort the grieving artist.

Social commentators have taken the moment to remind people of the importance of building real, lasting relationships based on sincerity rather than status or fame.

Kanene, who has endured both personal and professional challenges over the years, received a heartfelt farewell message from many ordinary Zambians who continue to view him as one of their own.

“R.I.P little angel,” read a touching post shared by TV Yatu, capturing the sorrow that has swept through Kanene’s local community.

As the music industry reflects on this moment, many are calling for unity, empathy, and stronger human bonds among artists beyond the stage and spotlight.

Mchinji North East legislator Masamba pushes for Chikangawa Plane Crash’ bereaved families compensation

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Mchinji North East legislator Anthony Masamba has called on President Peter Mutharika’s government to speed up compensation for families of the deceased in the Chikangawa Forest plane crash.

Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, Masamba emphasized the urgent need for justice and support to the bereaved families, noting that many are still struggling emotionally and financially in the aftermath of the tragedy.

Masamba

“It is only fair and humane that government provides compensation to the families who lost their loved ones in this unfortunate accident,” Masamba said. “These families have endured unimaginable pain, and the least we can do is to help them rebuild their lives.”

Masamba also appealed to the Ministry of Transport and Public Works to release a comprehensive report on the cause of the crash, stressing that transparency is crucial to preventing similar accidents in the future.

The legislator further urged authorities to improve aviation safety standards and emergency response mechanisms, saying that the Chikangawa disaster should serve as a wake-up call for all relevant stakeholders.

The Chikangawa plane crash, which claimed several lives, shocked the nation and prompted widespread calls for accountability and improved safety oversight within Malawi’s aviation sector.

Masamba’s remarks received support from several Members of Parliament, who echoed his sentiments and encouraged government to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves.

Masamba is among the newly elected Members of Parliament who transitioned from the newsroom to the National Assembly, having previously worked as a practicing journalist.

UTM Parliament leader Kaliati demands fresh investigation on Chikangawa Plane crash

Saulos Chilima dies in Plane Crash
Saulos Chilima dies in plane crash

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Leader of UTM in Parliament, Patricia Kaliati, has called on the Minister of Homeland to investigate the circumstances surrounding the plane crash in Chikangawa that claimed the life of late former Vice President Saulos Chilima.

Speaking in Parliament, Kaliati observes that the loss of prominent figures is deeply painful and requires urgent attention.

She urged the minister to ensure that Malawi does not continue losing key human resources in such manner.

The UTM leader in Parliament therefore called for a fresh inquiry, pointing out the need to understand why influential individuals continue to be lost and to hold responsible parties accountable.

On 10 June 2024, a Malawian Defence Force Dornier 228 carrying Vice-President of Malawi Saulos Chilima, former First Lady Patricia Shanil Muluzi, and seven other occupants, crashed in Chikangawa Forest Reserve in Nkhata Bay District; all on board died.

Despite Commission of Inquiry and German Federal agency findings, Malawians remain unsatisfied.

Norman Chisale: The triple star in Malawi’s political arena

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi’s political circles are abuzz with discussions surrounding Norman Chisale, the man who seems to wear not one, not two, but three powerful hats.

Recently appointed as the Deputy Minister of Homeland Security, Chisale also serves as a Member of Parliament and continues to hold his long-standing role as the senior bodyguard to former President Arthur Peter Mutharika.

His unique combination of duties has earned him the nickname “the triple star” among political observers and the public alike.

Many Malawians are curious and even skeptical about how Chisale manages to balance these demanding responsibilities that span the security and political spheres.

During the official opening of the 52nd Session of Parliament in Lilongwe, Chisale once again caught national attention when he appeared performing dual roles standing as both a legislator and the president’s close protection officer.

His simultaneous presence in both capacities highlighted his distinctive position within Malawi’s governance landscape.

Political analysts say Chisale’s rise demonstrates both loyalty and political resilience.

Having served in the Malawi Defense Force before becoming Mutharika’s trusted aide, Chisale has built a career grounded in discipline and proximity to power.

Now, as Deputy Minister of Homeland Security, his new responsibilities include overseeing national security matters, immigration, and internal affairs roles that require both political tact and operational expertise.

However, his multiple roles have sparked debate on ethics and governance

Critics argue that holding overlapping positions could blur professional boundaries and create potential conflicts of interest, while supporters view it as a testament to Chisale’s competence and dedication to national service.

For now, Chisale remains unfazed by public scrutiny.

His message to Malawians has been consistent: commitment to duty, loyalty to leadership, and service to the nation.

Whether he can continue to excel in his three demanding roles remains to be seen but one thing is certain, Norman Chisale has firmly established himself as one of Malawi’s most intriguing political figures.

Recently, Chisale has found himself entangled in a series of legal battles with the outgoing Malawi Congress Party (MCP)–led government.

Over the past few years, he has been pushed back and forth through the country’s court system, facing multiple charges ranging from alleged abuse of office to financial misconduct.

The legal turbulence resulted in several of his personal and business accounts being frozen, a move that drew widespread attention from both his supporters and critics.

Chisale, however, has consistently maintained his innocence, describing the cases as politically motivated attempts to tarnish his image and silence him for his perceived loyalty to the former president, Arthur Peter Mutharika.

Bodies of six Malawian nationals arrive home after tragic Limpopo accident

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The bodies of six Malawian nationals who lost their lives in a devastating road accident in Limpopo, South Africa, arrived in the country through the Mwanza Border Post on Friday afternoon.

The remains were received by officials from relevant government departments, relatives, and members of the public who gathered to pay their last respects.

The Malawian nationals were among 42 people who died in the accident, which occurred on Sunday night on the N1 highway in South Africa’s Limpopo province.

The bus carrying Zimbabwean and Malawian nationals veered off the road along a steep mountain pass and plunged down an embankment, resulting in the tragic loss of lives.

Government officials, alongside family members, welcomed the bodies at the border post, where a brief funeral service was conducted to pay tribute to the deceased.

The service provided an opportunity for relatives and friends to comfort each other and pay their last respects.

The bodies were later transported to their respective home districts for burial.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier confirmed that one body was repatriated separately by the bereaved family, while the body of a child remains in South Africa pending DNA confirmation.

Four Malawians who were hospitalized following the accident are reportedly recovering well.

The incident has drawn condolences from South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who described the high death toll as a tragedy not only for South Africa but also for its neighboring countries, Zimbabwe and Malawi.

The government and people of Malawi mourn the loss of these lives and offer support to the bereaved families during this difficult time.
